The Clinical Usefulness of 131 l-MIBG Scintigraphy

Abstract
|
|
|
The aim of this study is to describe overall usefulness of 131l-NlBG scintigraphy.
We reviewed the medical recordings, x-ray films and MIBG scanning films of 13 patients who had taken fourteen 131I-MlBG scintigraphy at the department of nuclear medicine. Dong-A University Hospital for 4.5 years.
The sensitivity and specificity of 131I-MlBG scintigraphy for localization of pheochromocytoma(including extra-adrenal origin) were 100% and 80%, respectively. 131l-MlBG scintigraphy was able to verify the result of anticancer chemotherapy or
surgery
for neuroblastoma and ganglioneuroma, and to exclude the existence of extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma when clinical characteristics and laboratory findings were equivocal.
We concluded that 131l-MlBG scintigraphy was very useful either for localization of pheochromocytoma and extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma or evaluating remission status of neuroblastoma and ganglioneuroma after treatment.
